Raymont-Osman Engineers worked on the new Speedo Biofuse 2.0 Goggles, launched in 2022, designing and developing a brand-new patent-pending push button mechanism for fast & secure fitting and a stylish low-profile strap with traction gears for a secure & comfortable fit.
Team RO worked to improve the usability of the goggle mechanism, now adjustable with only one hand. Design for Manufacture was crucial on this project, with our Engineers working closely with the Speedo in-house Design team to align the styling and manufacture. Using injection moulding simulation, Raymont-Osman planned in split lines and lines of draw, using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to check the strength of the moulded plastic springs; avoiding the use of metal which is prohibited on goggles. Our team designed the mechanism to be suitable for robust and repeatable assembly, using open and shut tools to ensure simple and cost-effective manufacture, having worked closely with the on-site manufacturer in China.
Reverse Engineering and teardown was utilised in order to create new intellectual property for this patent-pending push button mechanism.
